And so almost a year later, I'm back.
Have I slacked? Most definitely.
Have I gotten things done in the meantime? Oh, yes.
Since last checking in, I've had a story published in a collection entitled Debs: Four Women Writers on the Verge, available now from St. Andrew's College Press.
I applied for and was accepted into a workshop presented by Narrative Magazine. If anyone ever wants to do the Narrative workshop, let me know and I'll give you the skinny. It was great. I learned a lot and met some truly wonderful writers.
I've been slowly working on my novel and have been working on a new story, probably a novella, which is a challenge but one I am enjoying quite a bit.

And then life gets in the way...
Life gets in the way and blogging is the last thing on your mind.
But!
I have been productive lately, whether or not the internet knows it.
I've sent 1 story in to a magazine and have a couple more I am about to send out.
I went to a fun new writing club a couple weeks ago, and am looking forward to the next meeting.
Lots of inspirational stuff happening these days in the fog city... The Beats exhibit opens at the Contemporary Jewish Museum tonight, and I will be there to soak up some good energy.
Signing off for now...

Does it count if I've been working and not blogging about it?
Since my last post (ahem... several long weeks ago...) I've been getting work done but haven't checked back in and blogged about it.
Here's where I stand today:
-Some minor edits on chapters 3 and 4
-Wrote the first few pages of a new short story
-Sent in a vague yet complete proposal for a writing event I'd like to participate in (if not this year, next year!)
Tonight I plan to work some more on my chapters and perhaps the short story. I have my writing group tomorrow night and am interested to hear what they think I need to do with the story.
Keep up the good work...

Goal Report #1 - You win some, you lose some
Well, by 9 pm on Sunday night I managed to write a new chapter 3 and fiddle a bit with chapter 4. I didn't get to the script at all.
I'm a little disappointed but not much - I got much more work done than I thought I would when I woke up on Saturday morning, and came up with a few new ideas for chapter 4.
I spent some time reading, too - and I never think reading is a waste of time.
My goals for the next few days are to work some more on chapter 3 and 4 after my writing group gives me some feedback. I also want to start a new essay, and think about applying for a residency I read about earlier today.

Welcome to Goal City
Welcome to Goal City!
I've been procrastinating off and on my whole life, and it is not something I want to keep doing.
I decided to start this blog the other night after talking with a friend about procrastination, and how neither of us get as much done as we'd like. I thought, what if I had a blog where I kept track of my work product and goals? Would it help me get stuff done? Or would it just be a public place for people to see what I'm not working on?
So here I am, ready to share my goals with whoever stumbles over.
To begin, a little about me: I am a writer currently working on a novel and a script (with a writing partner). I work full time, not as a writer, and manage to fill my time with many things, most of which I feel compliment my life as a writer, but they don't always help me get my work done.
This week's goal:
-Revise chapter 3 and 4 of the novel for my writing group next week.
-Revise/work on my chunk of script for my next meeting with my writing partner.
Thanks for reading and possibly helping me with my goal to stay on task and get things done.
I welcome your comments, advice, and possibly guest posts on how others deal with procrastination and goals in the arts and in life.
